Ishpeming - Norman G. "Handsome Norm" Carlson, age 71, of 111 Bluff St. #211 Ishpeming, passed away on Friday, October 26th, at his home.
Norm was born in Ishpeming, MI on January 29, 1947, son of the late Elaine G. (Maki) and John "Cowboy" Carlson. He was a graduate of tee Ishpeming High school, Class of 1966. He then served in the United States Air Force having been stationed in Indiana. Norm returned to Ishpeming following his service time and worked as a miner at the Empire Mine for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 30 years.
Norm was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, especially the fall deer season, along with rabbit and bird hunting. Other activities included playing cards - cribbage, poker and pinochle to name a few, along with playing softball and coaching the Wilderness Sports team in the women's league. Norm was an avid supporter of the Ishpeming Hematites along with all of the professional teams from Michigan including the Lions, Tigers and Red Wings.
Norm is survived by a son Robert J. (Rebecca) Croschere II, of Shawano, WI; twin grandchildren - Eric & Ella Croschere; 3 brothers - Peter (Cathy) Carlson,.John "Yogi" Carlson and Ross (Barb) Carlson all of Ishpeming; longtime friend Joan Schultz of Ishpeming and her children Bradley, Tricia and Corey and their families; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ann Marie LaCosse & sister-in-law Sandra Carlson.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am - Noon on Friday November 2, 2018 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where a Memorial Service will follow at Noon with Rev. Stacy Pethke officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 at the conclusion of the services. A luncheon will follow the services at the Trinity Lutheran Church Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Liubakka, John Stone, Dave Hebien and Bob Merrill.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Ishpeming Salvation Army, Food Pantry at 222 E. Division St., Ishpeming, MI in 49849 in memory of Norm.
