Ely Twp.- Norman Arne Holmes, age 85, of Ely Township, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Mission Point Nursing & Physical Rehabilitation Center of Ishpeming.

Norman was born in Ironwood, MI on March 25, 1935, a son of the late Irene (Vanhalla) and Arne H. Holmes.  He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School, in Ironwood, Class of 1953.

Norman worked 30 years for the City of Ishpeming, Department of Public Works as a mechanic,  He served on the Ely Township Planning Commission and the Marquette County Planning Commission, where he served as chairman for many years, and the Marquette County Forestry Commission.

Norman was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447 and the Brownstone Club.   He enjoyed hunting and spending time at camp and being in the outdoors.

Norman is survived by his wife Ruth Jean (Marietti) Holmes, whom he married on May 12, 1956, 5 children: Norman A Holmes of Ishpeming, Michael (Paulette) Holmes of Iron Mountain, Rita (Robert) Miller of Ishpeming, Charles (Sylvia) Holmes of Roland, OK, and Greg Holmes of Hartford, WI, 6 grandchildren: Nathan (Polly) Holmes, Allen (Amanda) Holmes, Pauline Holmes, Jennifer (Christopher) Skridulis, Shannon (Matthew Barbercheck) Miller, Jeff (Jac) Holmes, 6 great grandchildren:  Madeline, Brandon, Alice, Steven, Mary Grace, Savannah, a sister Janet Nordling of Hurley, WI along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Jack and Dale Holmes, and a sister Arlove Holmes.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
