Obituary

ISHPEMING, MI – Norma Suszann Aho, age 66, of Ishpeming, passed away on Monday May 11, 2026, at the Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay, WI.

Norma was born in Ishpeming on June 8, 1959, the daughter of the late Norman and Esther (Nystedt) Aho. She was raised in Ishpeming alongside her older sister, Kathy, and was known from an early age for her energetic spirit and determination. She attended school in Ishpeming and graduated from Ishpeming High School in the Class of 1977. Those who knew her as a child remember someone who was always on the move and full of life.

Following high school, Norma entered the workforce, beginning her career with a local bank and later with Coldwell Banker. She eventually found her long-term professional home at Midwest Security Systems, where she worked faithfully followed by Edward Jones as a Business Office Administrator. In addition to her working career, Norma also shared her talents as an announcer and bookkeeper for WHWL Station Gospel Opportunities Radio Network.

Faith was at the center of Norma’s life. Most recently, she was an active member of the Bible Baptist Church in Ishpeming, where her warmth, generosity, and beautiful singing voice touched many lives. She taught Sunday school at several churches over the years and devoted countless hours to AWANA ministries. Whether teaching children, lending a helping hand, or singing from the heart, Norma lived her faith daily. And when she sang, she truly could “belt it out.”

Norma especially treasured time spent traveling with her sister Kathy and brother-in-law John. She loved visits to her friend’s cottage along the shores of Lake Michigan, enjoying homemade pasties, good conversation, and peaceful moments by the water. One of her favorite destinations was Shipshewana, IN, where she delighted in exploring the Amish community, admiring handcrafted goods, and finding quality furniture and treasures along the way. Norma also had a talent for choosing the perfect restaurants during their travels — a responsibility she took very seriously.

An avid reader, Norma could finish several books in a single week and always looked forward to trips to the Ishpeming Public Library. She cherished visits with her dear friend Paula and loved spending time with her goddaughter, Halley. Much joy was brought to her life by first her cat Max followed by her current cat Jasper.

Norma faced life’s hardships with remarkable courage. Living with rheumatoid arthritis for much of her life, she endured many health struggles, especially in recent months, yet continued to meet each challenge with strength, determination, and a smile.

If one word could describe Norma, it would be “spirited”. She loved fiercely and wholeheartedly, and those around her never doubted how deeply they were cared for. She found joy in giving gifts, helping others, and making sure everyone around her felt supported and loved.

Norma’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, church family, and all who were blessed to know her. Her faith, strength, and loving spirit will never be forgotten.

Norma is survived by her sister, Kathleen (John) Kantola of Ishpeming, MI; cousins, Karen (Richard) Trewhella of South Carolina, Allan (Donna) Mikkola of Florida, Lee Hagberg of Minnesota, Keith Nystedt of Illinois, Philip Nystedt of Illinois, Charles Nystedt of Illinois, and Roger Nystedt of Georgia; goddaughter, Halley (Trevor) Datzko of Grandville, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Esther Aho; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the Bible Baptist Church in Ishpeming on Saturday June 27, 2026, with visitation taking place from 4:00pm until the time of service at 5:00pm. Pastor George Ward and Pastor James Hill will officiate. Following the service, all are invited to a luncheon that will be held in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
