Ishpeming- Neil E. Baker, Sr. age 77 of 207 E. Euclid St. Ishpeming, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he has been a resident for the past 6 years.
Neil was born March 15, 1934 in Alba, MI to Carl & Pearl (Erickson) Baker. Neil served his country in the U.S. Army for 9 years, being honorably discharged in 1966. He served during the Korean & Vietnam Conflicts.
Neil worked 34 years as a diesel tractor trailer mechanic for Mid Michigan Trailer Service of Grand Rapids, retiring in 1999 at which time he moved to the UP. Neil was a member of the NRA, proud member of the Republican Party. He loved collecting & cleaning knick-knacks, especially silver.
Neil is survived by his wife JoAnn Rummelt-Baker, whom he married May 16, 1992, six children: Neil (Kim) Baker of Wyoming, MI, Alton (Toni) Baker of Ravenna, MI, Stormy (John) Kronberg of Wyoming, MI, Mira (Patrick) Black of Big Rapids, MI, Marie Rummelt-Baker of Ishpeming and Elizabeth (John) of Switzerland, several grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, along with several sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and many sisters and brothers.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be conducted at a later date in Lower Michigan.
