Gwinn, MI- Neil W. Sayre, age 85 of 361 Marauder St. Gwinn, Michigan, longtime Jefferson, Wisconsin resident passed away peacefully Friday, September 06, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, Michigan.
Neil was born March 14, 1928 in Jefferson to William & Cecelia (Foelker) Sayre. He graduated from Jefferson High School. Neil worked on the family farm until his retirement. He owned and operated Sayre's Strawberry Farm. Neil was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He sold farm insurance for Helenville Mutual Insurance Company, and served on the Board of Directors there for many years.
Neil is survived by his wife Gladys (Jacobs) Sayre, whom he married on April 15, 1950, 2 sons: Kris (Leah) Sayre of Gwinn, MI and Mark (Mary) Sayre of Fort Atkinson, a sister Marilynn "Win" Niebler of Jefferson, 4 grandchildren: Oscar, Abe, Eric, and Craig along with nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and Dean and sisters Lorraine Devitt and Myrtle Quinn.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with Fr. Thomas Coyle officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
