Negaunee Twp, MI- Neil H. Rinne, age 92, longtime Negaunee Township resident passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Michigan Veterans Home D.J. Jacobetti in Marquette.

Neil was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on October 2, 1930, a son of the late Frank W. and Lempi L. (Nelson) Rinne. Neil served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.

In his early career, Neil worked 13 years at a General Motors locomotive manufacturing plant in Illinois. He also had his own TV repair business for at time. After returning to the U.P.  in 1970, he worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 26 years and retired from the Tilden Mine as an electrical repair foreman.

Neil enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, woodworking, walking and hiking. He was a member of the North Country Trail Association. Neil was a very talented carpenter building his own house and a log cabin.

Neil is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Mark) Melka of Negaunee Township, Karen Rinne of Negaunee and a son, Stephen (Gloria) Rinne of Deerton, MI, three grandchildren:  Lisa (Derek) Frisk, Alan (Kelsey) Melka, and Troy Rinne, along with a great granddaughter; Elaine Frisk.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Wife: Janet (Paju) Rinne whom he was married to for 62 years; and a son Lenard G. Rinne.

Private graveside services will be held at Ishpeming Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
