Champion – Nancy Ouellette, age 60, of 75 Granite St., passed away the morning of September 9, 2008 at Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp., under the loving care of Lake Superior Hospice.
Nancy was born September 30, 1947 the daughter of the late Arne and Florence (Maki) Syrjala in Ishpeming. She worked as a cook for the American Legion for many years along with volunteering at numerous venues including the D.J. Jacobetti Center in Marquette and the Mather Nursing Center. Nancy enjoyed helping others and had a huge heart. She was always on the go lending a helping hand, cooking, playing bingo or taking part in the Bethel Quilters, the Red Hat Society, or the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include sons: Brad (Paula) Hupp of Gwinn and Robert Ouellette of Diorite Location, granddaughter: Morgan Marie Hupp, brother: Don (Marie) Syrjala of Republic, sister: Maxine LaParche of Marquette along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Herm" Ouellette in 2004.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00AM until 11:00AM on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the American Legion Lillian Larson Post #114, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00AM with Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens in Negaunee Twp. A luncheon will follow the services at the American Legion.
