Obituary

Ishpeming- Myrtle Marie Hautamaki (Snell) 81 passed away on September 14, 2026.

Myrtle was born on July 17th, 1945 to John Harry Snell and Myrtle Rhea (Beatty) Snell. On September 21, 1963, she married Richard Hautamaki Sr., and together they shared many years of marriage and raised their family.

Myrtle enjoyed the simple things in life, especially knitting, going to garage sales, and playing bingo, cards, and dice. Anyone who played with her knew she had a reputation for being incredibly lucky. More than anything, Myrtle treasured time spent with her family. She shared a particularly special bond with her granddaughter Chelsey, and the relationship they had meant a great deal to both of them.

Myrtle also had a wonderful sense of humor and a personality that her family will never forget. You always knew when she was mad because she would give you her famous “stink eye,” or raise her fist and ask, “Do you want a piece of this?” Those who knew her will remember those moments with a smile and will miss the laughter and personality she brought to every family gathering.

Myrtle is survived by her son, Rick (Dawn) Hautamaki of Vernal, Utah; her daughter, Connie Harper of Ishpeming, Michigan; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley (Carl) Dehner of Champion, Michigan, Marceline Treloar of Ishpeming, Michigan, and Nancy (Tony) Misale of Countryside, Illinois; and her brothers, Joseph (Memorie) Snell of Champion, Michigan, and Larry Snell of Ishpeming, Michigan.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hautamaki Sr., in 2013; her daughter, Catherine Henderson, in 2016; and two infant sons.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, John Harry Snell and Myrtle Rhea (Beatty) Snell; her sisters, Ida Rochon, Carol Rochon, Clara Dube, Ruby Tuttila, and Lois Jandreau; and her brothers, John Harry Snell and William Snell.

Myrtle will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her family will remember her laughter, her unmistakable sense of humor, her famous “stink eye,” and, most of all, the love she had for her family. Her memory will live on through the many generations of the family she loved so dearly.

Myrtle’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Saturday September 19, 2026 from 4:00pm until 5:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 5:00pm. Finger foods will be served following the service. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens on Monday September 21, 2026 at 10:00am.
