Ishpeming – Myron W. Mattson, age 60, of 224 Marquette St., Ishpeming passed away in the Emergency Room at Bell Hospital on Friday, April 29, 2011 of an apparent heart attack.
Myron was born March 9, 1951 in Ishpeming the son of the late Martin and Beatrice Mattson. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1969. Following graduation he entered the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country he returned to Ishpeming and worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. at the Tilden Mine mainly in the control room. He retired on July 1, 2010 after 39 years with the company. Myron especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed building projects and outdoor activities including hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters Jennifer (Scott) Burton of Green Bay, WI and Rachel (Christopher) Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, 6 grandchildren – Brandon, Caitlin, Ryan, Ethan, Sabrina and Nicholas, a sister – Marilyn Widman of Sterling Heights, MI, a brother Lee (Gail) Mattson of Negaunee, his fiancé Tammy Crothers of Ishpeming and her children – Paul G. Crothers, Spencer and Veronica Paulson,. He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne Mattson.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 at the conclusion of the service. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 until 7pm on Tuesday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
