Ishpeming- Mitano M. Meingin, age 71, longtime area resident, passed away on Tuesday July 21, 2026 at his home.

Mitano was born on June 1, 1955 in Truk, Uman Island in Micronesia, son of the late Karuo and Inerik (Kikicho) Meingin. He grew up on the Island eventually moving to the United States where he lived in various places before settling in Ishpeming. Mitano worked several jobs while in the area, most notably his time spent at A&L Iron and Metal where he truly enjoyed working and formed bonds with many acquaintances over the years. He married his wife Marie Causley in May of 2008, and shared 40 years together including nearly 20 in marriage.

Mitano enjoyed shooting pool, playing horseshoes, cribbage, chess, Yahtzee, and any card game under the sun. He also enjoyed visiting with people around town, and spending time with his family, he loved people and had many friends both near and far. Mitano’s family will always fondly remember when his grandson Chris was starting drivers and Mitano had him jump in the driver’s seat and took him for his first lessons. He will also be remembered for his love of the Green Bay Packers.

Mitano is survived by his wife: Marie (Causley) Meingin, children: Christopher (Heather) Johnson, Margerita (Elm) Meingin-Cobb, Lisa (Carlos Solantos) Johnson, Pete Johnson, grandchildren: Alani (Kaden Brown), Lily, Jesse, Drew, Christopher Mitano Johnson, Makaylah Johnson, Briana Johnson, step grandchildren: Peyton Cobb, Mason Cobb, great grandchildren: Kalista, Jaydynn Earl Leo Wilkins, Leihana Brown, along with numerous other family members and siblings in Truk.

Mitano was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Zackari who he joins walking on the spirit road with eachother, along with several relatives from Truk.

Following Mitano’s wishes, cremation will take place with no public services scheduled at this time.
