Ishpeming – Mildred Gail Sipola, age 91, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Marquette General Hospital.
Mildred was born on August 29, 1921 in Ishpeming to Walter & Rose (Mager) Sandberg. She attended Negaunee Schools and graduated from the Adult Education Community Schools. Mildred worked as a seamstress for the Negaunee Dress Company and H.W. Gossard Company and later worked at Mather Nursing Center in the laundry department.
Mildred was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, the Cornish Cousins and the Ishpeming V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing BINGO and volunteering at the Mather and D.J. Jacobetti Nursing Homes.
Mildred is survived by 2 daughters: Sandra (Paul) Strand of Green Bay, WI and Barbara (Wayne) Woodruff of Marquette, a brother Edward (Edith) Sandberg of Ishpeming 4 grandchildren: Erin (Charles) Noble, Tim (Tiffany) Strand, Shane Woodruff and Daniel (Michelle) Woodruff, and 5 great grandchildren Griffin Noble, Hudson Noble, Beckett Noble, Elsie Strand and Ari Strand, brother in law Chester Oliver of San Diego, along with several nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rudolph in 1992 and sisters: Dorothy Pearson and Shirley Taylor and sister in law Evelyn Oliver
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00-11:00am on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Bethel Lutheran Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00am with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.
Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial considerations may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church or the Ishpeming Senior Center in memory of Mildred.
