Obituary
Humboldt Twp. – Mildred Marie (Wentela) Eliason, age 83, of 3110 Co.Rd. FD, Humboldt Twp., passed away at 4:45AM on Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.
Mildred, the daughter of the later Victor and "Emily" (Aho) Wentela, was born on March 29, 1924, in Champion, MI. She married Walfred Eliason on November 22, 1941. She and "Wally" have lived in Humboldt since their marriage except for 13 years in Iron Mountain.
Mildred, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, was a homemaker, with baking, cooking, and knitting as her specialties. She loved sharing these talents with many special friends and family members.
She also worked in the restaurant business, and for Callahan Mining Co. in the Humboldt area, and Twin City Cleaners and a government contracted sewing factory in the Iron Mountain area.
She organized the Humboldt area Sunday school and taught there for many years. Mildred was also active in the Campion School's parent teacher organization serving as its president.
In later years, she volunteered in the kitchen at the Senior Meals program as well as delivered meals to local residents. She loved people of all ages, from tiny tots to the elderly. Mildred was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church
Survivors include 3 children: Judith (Duane) Soine of Negaunee, Earl (Jean) Eliason of Clarksburg Loc., and Linda (Ken) O'Brien of Marinette, WI; a brother Wesley (Betty) Wentela of Ishpeming; 6 grandchildren David (Cynthia) Soine, Robin (Kurt) Nickel, Dan (Leslie) Soine, Kim (Brian) Smolich, Dean Hakala and Lane Sauve; 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, along with special neighbors, Marvin and Audry Ruspakka. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Wally, on July 9, 2005, and one brother Walter Wentela.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon, EST, on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Charles Prussi officiating. Interment will take place at the Humboldt Cemetery.
Friends may call at Bjork & Zhulkie from 10:00AM until 12noon on Wednesday.
