Republic, MI - Mildred M. Alatalo (Millie), age 83, a lifelong Republic resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI, while surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Ishpeming on June 13, 1942, to the late John and Ellen (Hendrickson) Augustson, Millie grew up in Republic, attending school there and proudly graduating with the Class of 1960. After a period of working in Milwaukee WI, she returned to Republic and married her husband of 60 years, Fred (Pete) Alatalo on April 3, 1965.

Millie was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic, where she participated in quilting, the alter guild, and often helped in the kitchen whenever there was a need. Over the years, she was also involved in many community organizations.

Millie with family and friends took on many projects. Using their creativity and skills in ways that have been passed down to her daughter, son, nieces and nephews. She was an avid reader who would share books with her family and friends, often exchanging them so they could compare notes and discuss their favorite stories.

Millie is survived by her husband Fred (Pete) Alatalo; daughter, Brenda (Lige) Crawford; son, Brent (Jo) Alatalo; and grandson Brandon Crawford. She is also survived by her sisters-in law, Marilyn Helmila and Barbara Augustson; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her immensely.

She joins in eternal rest her parents, John and Ellen Augustson; brother, John (Larry) Augustson; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn (Kay) and David Hamel; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Fred and Sylvia Alatalo; sister-in-law, Marlene Vadnais; brother-in-law, Wally Helmila; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent Hospital for the compassionate care Millie received during her brief stay. Following Millie's wishes a private Memorial Service for immediate family and friends will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic. Pastor Alex Ross will be officiating.
