Ishpeming- Michael Allen Maki, age 78, lifelong Ishpeming resident passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at his home.
Michael was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on June 12, 1940, a son of the late Viola (Lakanen) and Toivo Maki. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.
Mike worked for Michigan Bell Telephone for many years, retiring from Ameritech. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the AMVETS. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics, camping, biking and coffee clutching with his buddies.
Mike is survived by a daughter, Sara (Dale) Mattson, of Wakefield, MI; a son, Scott (Bonnie) Maki of Ishpeming, a brother Raymond Maki of Kingsford, MI, grandchildren: Adam (Amy) Mattson, Amy (Kevin Steinmetz) Mattson, Jennifer (Dan) Krook and Jason Roan, great grandchildren: Michael, Taryn, Teagan, Bryce, Nolan, and Bella, sisters in law: Jane Maki and Irja Hendrickson, along with nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife Melba, brothers: Robert Maki, and LeRoy Maki a sister Lorraine Duncan, an infant sister, brothers in law: Pete Hendrickson, Robert Duncan, and sister in law Faye Maki.
Mike's family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am-12:00 noon on Saturday April 20, 2019 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.
A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy.
Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steven Maki, Donald Maki, Brian Maki, Dean Maki, David Duncan, and Gordon Hendrickson.
