Republic- Michael John Head, known affectionately to family and friends as Mike or Mikey, age 45, of Republic, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on November 1, 2026.
Born on October 1, 1981, in Manistique, Michigan, Michael grew up on the Garden Peninsula and graduated from Big Bay de Noc High School. During his high school years, he worked at Fayette Historic State Park running horse and carriage rides—beginning a lifelong love for Fayette, a place he cherished and returned to visit time and time again. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University, earning his bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
A dedicated and talented Systems Administrator, Michael poured passion and expertise into his professional life throughout his career. Over the years, he served with distinction at Computer Associates, Compudyne, Integris, and most recently at MARESA. His work ethic, problem-solving skills, and steady reliability earned him the deep respect of colleagues and peers alike.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike loved backpacking, exploring nature, and being outside. He was always anticipating the next big adventure and couldn't wait to take his wife and kids on their next trip to a National Park.
Faith and service were central to Michael’s life. For 13 years, he was a deeply committed member of NORTHIRON Church in Ishpeming. One of his greatest passions was serving as the leader of Royal Rangers, where he was tirelessly devoted to their mission: to evangelize, equip, and empower the next generation of Christlike men and lifelong servant leaders. Mike led by example, mentoring young men with integrity, patience, and love.
Above all else, Michael was devoted to his family. He shared nearly 24 wonderful years together with his beloved wife, Kristi, building a life rooted in deep partnership, devotion, and 17 years of marriage. His three children—Karli, Marcus, and Emily—were his absolute pride and joy. Whether guiding them through life's milestones, exploring nature together, or spending quiet time at home, Michael's heart was always evident: he loved God, his wife, his children, and his church.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Mark Head; an infant child lost to miscarriage; his paternal grandparents, Dean and Jacqueline (Adams) Head; and his aunt, Cindy LaTulip.
He is survived by his wife, Kristi Head; his three children, Karli, Marcus, and Emily; his mother, Pamela (LaTulip) Head; his maternal grandparents, John and Bea (Clifton) LaTulip; his sister, Melisa (Head) Gleason and her husband Adam; his father-in-law, Ted Foye and his wife Sam; mother-in-law, Paula Schnurer; and his sister-in-law, Bobbi (Foye) Silkworth. Mikey is also remembered fondly by his nieces, Ellie, Evie, and Eden; his nephews, Brayden and Braxten; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, colleagues, church community members, and dear friends.
Mike’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday November 7, 2026 at the NORTHIRON Church in Ishpeming from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mark Broberg officiating. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
