Negaunee - Melvin J. Wisuri, age 88, currently of 290 W. Water St., Negaunee, passed away at 11:10PM on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Teal Lake Senior Living Community in Negaunee where he had resided for the past two years.

Melvin was born in Humboldt Twp. on July 15, 1930, a son of the late Ida (Miller) and Jacob Wisuri.  He was a graduate of the Champion High School, Class of 1949.  Melvin married Doris Marjamaa on June 13, 1953 in Calumet.  They resided in Detroit and Livonia for most of their married life, where Melvin had worked for the Ford Motor Co. as a job setter on the transmission line at the Livonia Transmission Plant. Melvin was also an owner and operator of a laundromat and dry-cleaning business in the Detroit area.

Melvin was a member of the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. During his retirement years, Melvin enjoyed 11 years wintering in Florida and his summers in the Upper Peninsula.

Melvin is survived by four daughters, Susan (George) Bekkala, of Mountain Iron, MN; Kathleen (James) Shoner, of Highland; Janice Batts, of Livonia; Sharon Kearis, of Highland; four sons, Paul (Janet) Wisuri, of Ishpeming; Thomas (Carina) Wisuri, of Taylor, AZ; Michael Wisuri, and Carl Wisuri both of Canton; 3 sisters, Esther "Betty" Wisuri of Farmington Hills; Anita (Paul) Tolkkinen of Minneapolis, MN; Faye Erickson of Menahga, MN; 2 brothers, George (Isobel) Wisuri of Menahga, MN; Charles "Eddie" Wisuri of Longview, WA; sister-in-law Lorraine Wisuri of Cokato, MN; 23 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife Doris on May 26, 2015, son Martin Wisuri, granddaughter Michelle Wisuri, great-granddaughter Trudy Larson, 3 brothers, Ivar Raymond, Robert and John Wisuri; and two sisters, Rose Marie Edwards and Ruth Woodford.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 - 11:00AM on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Laestadian Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM on Monday, November 19th at the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Walt Lampi to officiate. Interment will take place at the Humboldt Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Melvin's grandsons.
