Negaunee- Melvin Abel Hjelt, 86, Negaunee, died Friday afternoon, August 21, 2015 with
family by his side at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

Mel was born on February 6, 1929 in Nashwauk, Minnesota to John and Sulelemia (Johnson) Hjelt.

He married Ruth Kippola of Republic, Michigan on February 5, 1951 in Negaunee.

Survivors include daughter Kristine (Gerry) Nitzel of Wayne, Michigan, son
John (Angela) Hjelt, daughter Peggy (Greg) Anaas, and daughter Elizabeth (David)
Kero all of Negaunee. Also surviving are his 8 grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren, and a host of brothers and sisters in faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents, his brother Kenneth, and his sister Hazel Juola.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Monday August 24th at
the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Congregation, County Road 492, Negaunee. The
family will again greet relatives and friends on Tuesday August 25th from 11:00am to 12:00noon at the congregation with the funeral service at 12:00 noon with Chas Prusi to
officiate.

Interment will be at the Negaunee cemetery.

A small luncheon will follow the service in the church hall.
