Obituary

Ishpeming – Mayme I. (Helstein) Werner, age 91, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where she had been a resident since Dec. 2, 2011. Mayme was born October 28, 1921 in Palmer the daughter of the late Walter and Ida (Gustafson) Helstein. She was a graduate of the Palmer High School, Class of 1938. Mayme married August "Hart" Werner on April 6, 1940. She had resided in Ishpeming since 1946 and was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. Mayme had worked at the H.W. Gossard Co. for several years, Bell Memorial Hospital in the Dietary Dept., and Twin Cities Medical Clinic, housekeeping dept. She was a wonderful baker and well known for her coffee bread, blueberry Finnish pie & pasties. Mayme always loved playing games with her grandchildren. Survivors include 3 children - a son David (Deanna) Werner of Plymouth, MI, and daughters - Sharon (Charles) Anderson of Ishpeming and Arlene (Paul) Rosten of Negaunee, 7 grandchildren – Stacy (Steve) Halaby, Shannon VanDeren, Pamela (Daniel) Bahrman, Steven (Julie) Anderson, Linda Rosten, Renee (Michael) Bilkey, and Jeff Rosten, 11 great grandchildren, a sister Pearl Chiri of Anchorage, AK, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband August E. Werner in 2000, 3 brothers – Einar, Arne and Wilho Helstein and a sister Elma Heikkila. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10am – 12:00noon on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 12:00noon in the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall. Pallbearers will be Jeff Rosten, Steven Anderson, Daniel Bahrman, Mike Bilkey, Warren Heikkila and George Ostlund.
