Marquette, MI- Matthew Allen "Mattman" Rich, age 56 Marquette resident passed away at his home on Monday, August 19, 2024.

Matthew was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 12, 1968, a son of Lloyd Allen Rich and the late Alta (Walsh) Rich. Matt graduated from Wyoming High School, in Wyoming, Michigan, Class of 1986 and received a bachelor's degree in musical arts.

Matt was currently employed by AMCAB- Alger Marquette Community Action Board as their housing director. Matt was always willing to help others, he dedicated his work to helping Veterans and those less fortunate to find housing.

Matt was a known musician in the local music scene, he played in the Negaunee City Band and the former Westerly Winds. He liked all genres of music and was a gifted saxophone, bass guitar and violin player. Besides music Matt enjoyed drawing, rock collecting, gardening, camping, kayaking, and biking. Matt was a free spirit type of guy and was a license officiator, officiating weddings for family and friends.

Matt is survived by his wife Sarah Lynn (Nantelle) Rich, whom he married on February 13, 2010, his daughter, Lexi (Karl) Palmer, his father Lloyd Rich, stepchildren; Kyle Ericson, Joshua Nantelle, Chet Culver, Stacie Desonia, and Troy Matz, grandson; Maverick Nantelle, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother Alta Rich, cousins Melissa Harrington and Kim Harrisson and his grandmother Helen Walsh.

A Celebration of Matt's life will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home, 400 N. Third St. Ishpeming, at 3:00 pm there will be time to share memories of Matt.
