Mary Ellen Wenzel, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2019 in Okemos, Michigan.

Born November 24, 1927 in Sturgis, Michigan, to Winfield and Nellie May (Peckham) Blossom, Mary Ellen married Harry Wenzel Jr. in 1951. Together, they lived in several communities in Michigan, Harry working as a teacher and Mary Ellen working as a secretary. Harry finished his teaching career and retired in Ishpeming. Mary Ellen enjoyed working with the Bell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Ishpeming Senior Center. She was an excellent knitter and an avid reader. Together they enjoyed traveling for several years after retirement, spending some winters in Florida, Texas, and Arizona. They lived in Ishpeming for 43 years before moving downstate in 2013 to be closer to their children.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wenzel Jr., in 2018; and her parents.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Karen (Fritz) Smydra and Kevin (Natalie) Wenzel; her grandchildren, Corey, Amanda, Nellie, Mickayla, and Shyla; and her great-grandchildren, Jarl, Sage, Willow, and Freja.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 1pm at Ishpeming Cemetery in Ishpeming, Michigan. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
