Obituary

Marquette- Mary Jane Welsh, age 98 Marquette resident passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at her residence in Marquette while under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.

Mary Jane was born February 9, 1916 in Negaunee to August & Sena (Rasmussen) Johnson. She graduated from Negaunee High School, class of 1933 and attended Northern State Teachers College (now NMU) graduating in 1937 with a B.S. Degree in Commerce.

Mary Jane taught school at Adams Township High School, Clawson High School and Detroit Business Institute. She left teaching to work in the business world, being employed with the Office of Price in Iron Mountain and War Production Board in Green Bay. She later went to work for Kimberly-Clark, Edward G. Meyer Construction Company and retired as a Sales Manager from Wisconsin Tissue Mill in 1975.

Mary Jane was a member & supporter of the Episcopal Church, being a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Negaunee where she was baptized and confirmed and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Spring Hill, Florida. She was a life member of Eastern Star. Mary Jane loved playing bingo, working on crossword puzzles, going for rides and had a great interest in computers. She enjoyed being a "snowbird" spending the winter months in Florida at her residence in Spring Hill and the summer months in the UP.

Mary Jane is survived by step children, Robert, Thomas and Deborah Welsh, Patricia Seger, nephews Jim & Mike Welsh, Tom Gatiss, Tom Paull and niece Lorraine Paull Overturf. She was preceded in death by her first husband Lawrence Jarvey in 1968, and second husband Robert Welsh in 1992 and good friend Sabina Johns.

A private graveside service will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
