Ishpeming Township-
Mary R. Tasson, 89, of 2000 Woodland Drive, passed away Wednesday morning March 9, 2011 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had resided since September 2010. She was surrounded by family as well as her caregivers at MCMCF.
Mary was born on December 24, 1921, the eighth child of eleven living children, to Dominic B. and Mariana (Umbrello) Tasson. Mary was a lifelong area resident who worked at LaRock's Bakery and for many years as a clerk at the Coast to Coast Store in Ishpeming. Prior to working outside of the home, Mary provided in-home care for her mother for 17 years. Throughout her life Mary cared for various family members including her youngest sister, Teresa. Mary was well known as a fabulous cook and baker and was also very capable at "fixing" things around the house. She enjoyed being home on the family farm in North Lake Location.
Survivors include her oldest brother, Bernard, of Marquette; her oldest sister, Elizabeth, of Ishpeming; nephews; Andy (Camille) of Huntley, Illinois; Fabian (Barbara) of O'Fallon, Missouri; Alan (Carolyn) of Sun City West, Arizona; and Lloyd, Dominic R. "Skip", James (Fay), and Dennis (Alberta) of Ishpeming; nieces; Ann Santee of Hackinsack, New Jersey; Patricia Tasson, Barbara Tasson, and Jean (Jeff) LePage of Ishpeming. Mary is also survived by several great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by brothers Dominic, Vito, Salvatore "Tuddy", James, Joseph, and Rocco; and sisters Frances "Chick" and Teresa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 12, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Church with Father Greg Heikkila officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral on Saturday.
