Ishpeming Twp- Mary Ann Solka,age 75 of 250 Marigold St. Ishpeming passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 at UP Health System Marquette where she been a patient since Friday.
Mary Ann was born April 26, 1939 in Ishpeming to Lawrence & Antoinette (Turbessi) Carollo. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1957 and still enjoyed gathering with her classmates on a monthly basis. Mary Ann started playing the organ at a young age, and was currently the organist at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming being the organist for over 60 years. She had also worked at Jackson's Hardware and as a seamstress at the Style Shop and from her home.
Mary Ann was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and getting together every Friday with her coffee club. She loved the holidays and was a wonderful grandmother to her four grandchildren.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband Jim Solka, whom she married on June 14, 1958, 4 children: Peggy Solka of Webster, NY, Annette (Scott) Doren of Ishpeming, Jamie (Greg) Nardi of Ishpeming and Michael (fiancee Dawn Richards) Solka of Ishpeming, 4 grandchildren: Karrah & Ian Teague, Dustin & Trevor Doren. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Madeline Solka and her uncle Anelio Turbessi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 PM on Wednesday March 25th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Mary Ann's family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at St. Johns Catholic Church from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 4:00 PM.
A luncheon will be held at K/D Hall following the funeral Mass.
