Marquette/Republic, MI- Mary Ann Saless, age 81, longtime Republic resident, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette.

Mary was born December 13, 1937 at home in Republic to Walter and Imbie (Auguson) Hakala.  She graduated from Republic High School, class of 1955.  Mary worked in the insurance industry as a Claims Adjuster for State Farm Insurance Company for many years.

Mary was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic and a former member of the Red Hats Society.  She enjoyed gardening, exploring the desert, metal detecting, driving adventures and hot air balloon rides.

Mary is survived by 3 children: Rick (Maureen) Saless of Howell, MI Michael (Anne) Saless of Webster, NY and Jeff (Jennifer) Saless of Erie, CO, her friend and companion of many years, Bob Mattson, 2 sisters: Janet LaFreniere of Republic and Vicki (Bruce) Pantti of Republic, a brother Dan (Micky) Hakala of Marquette, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Arvid Olander and a brother, Howard.

Mary's family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, June 24th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic where a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., with Rev. Thomas Wickstrom officiating.

A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
