Ishpeming Twp- Mary Mildred "Millie" Mongiat, age 93 former Gwinn resident passed away Friday March 11, 2016 at the Mather Nursing Center where she been a resident since March 2013.
Mary was born August 18, 1922 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada to John H. & Mary N. Walsh. She grew up in St. John's and worked for the Canadian government. She moved to the United States with her husband Clark Mongiat, they made their summer residence in Gwinn and wintered in Florida for many years.
Millie attended St. Peter's Cathedral in Marquette. She enjoyed looking for deals at local rummage sales and she always enjoyed the company of her kittens.
Millie is survived by her daughters: Vickie (Jan) Walsh of Tors Cove, Newfoundland, Ann Murray of Toronto, and Janet (Louis) of Australia,, step children: Peggy (Gerry) Koski of Ishpeming, Jim (Judy) Mongiat of Ishpeming, Dan (Darlene) Mongiat of Republic and Miriam "Mickey" Pennala of Ishpeming, a sister Sheila Devine of Newfoundland, 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Millie was preceded in death by her husband Clark Mongiat in 2007 and 2 brothers: Syril & James Walsh.
Honoring Millie's wishes, no public services will be held, cremation will take place and inurnment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
Millie's family would like to thank the staff at the Mather Nursing Center and Dr. Kroll for the wonderful care given to Millie especially in the final days of her life.
