Obituary
Ishpeming – Mary Ellen Laukka, age 66, of 207 Stone St. Ishpeming passed away on Saturday June 2, 2012 at her home in Ishpeming.
Mary Ellen was born October 13, 1945 in Marquette the daughter of Kenneth and Corrine (LaJoie) Perala. She grew up in North Lake Location and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1963. Mary Ellen went on to receive her degree as a licensed practical nurse from N.M.U. She worked as a LPN at Bell Memorial Hospital for 18 years and then for a couple of years as a night charge nurse at the Mather Nursing Center prior to her retirement.
Mary Ellen enjoyed horseback riding. She often would pass time by knitting, crocheting or doing crossword puzzles. She loved to be at the cottage on the Dead River Basin, and she will be remembered by her family as a great cook.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years Alan L. Laukka of Ishpeming, 5 children – Shelly (Dave) Kestila of Ishpeming, Jon (Donna) Korpi of Ishpeming, Renee (Chris) Teneyck of Fountain, CO, Charlene Laukka of Fountain, CO and Carla (Andrew) Koepel of Longmont, CO, along with 10 grandchildren a great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held in honor of Mary Ellen's life.
