Obituary

Ishpeming- Mary Elizabeth Krook, age 91 formerly of Duncan Ave Ishpeming, passed away Wednesday October 21, 2015 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Mary was born March 21, 1924 in Ishpeming to Herbert & Bertha (Heard) Medlyn. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1942. After high school, Mary moved to Detroit to work for The Signal Corps, working in record keeping and chart sorting for the big battle tanks for World War II. After World War II, she married Donald Krook, her husband of 60 years. Together they raised five children.

Mary was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride a joy. She has attended numerous sporting and school events and loved babysitting for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful seamstress and knitter, making many of her family member's sweaters, hats, and Christmas stockings for years.


Mary was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women. She was a past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, former member of the Wawonowin Golf and Country Club and bridge clubs.

Mary is survived by 4 children: Peter (Jan) Krook of Ishpeming, Susan (Paul) Wolfson of Ishpeming, Steven (Junko) Krook of Negaunee and Kenneth Krook of Brooklyn, NY, a sister in law Marion Medlyn of Ishpeming, 12 grandchildren, 28great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Donald Krook in 2007, a daughter Marilyn Kay Krook in 1977 and a brother James Medlyn.

Funeral services for Mary will be held at 5:00 pm, Friday October 23, 2015 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with Rev. JJ Mannschreck officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Mary's family will greet relatives and friends at the Wesley United Methodist Church on Friday from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 5:00 pm. A luncheon will follow the service.

Pallbearers will be Mary's grandchildren.

Memorial considerations may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church.
