Ishpeming- Mary S. Ketchem, age 84, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Teal Lake Senior Living Community, while in the loving care of her family, and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Mary was born in Ishpeming on January 14, 1940, daughter of the late Matthew and Gertrude (Nault) Sullivan. She grew up in Ishpeming, where she attended Ishpeming High School, graduating with the class of 1958. Mary worked as a bookkeeper for over 30 years at the local Chevy dealership, working through 4 ownership changes, ending her career with Fox Chevy in Negaunee. She married her late husband Ronald Ketchem on September 1, 1962, and enjoyed 59 years of marriage until Ronald's passing in 2022.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a former member of Wawonowin Country Club, and the Ishpeming Elks, and the Ishpeming mixed doubles bowling league. Mary's hobbies included bowling, golfing, knitting, watching game shows on tv, reading, cheering on the Red Wings, and Packers, playing cards and board games with her family, and most of all loving and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by 3 children- Peter (Jamie) Ketchem, Patty (Greg) Anderson, Jim (Carrie) Ketchem, 7 grandchildren- Ryan (Lance) Langem, Jason (Chris Robinson) Ketchem, Erin, Mitch, and Alex Anderson, Bethany Ketchem (Daniel) Hickox-Young, Jordan (Miranda) Ketchem, 2 sisters- Pat Gaviglio, Peg (Wayne) Smith, 1 sister-in-law- Arlene Sullivan, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Ronald Ketchem, sister and brother-in-law- Jeannette (Frank) Bonetti, brother- Tom Sullivan, brother-in-law and sister-in-law- Don (Lynn) Ketchem, brother-in-law- Jerry Gaviglio, and nephews- David Gaviglio, and Timothy Ketchem.
Mary's family will greet relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday July 8, 2024 from 10:00am until 11:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Christian Flagstadt as celebrant. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery. Mary's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Mary.
