Ishpeming – Mary Elizabeth Tasson, age 91, formerly of 898 Palms Ave., Ishpeming, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2009 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she has resided since June of 2005.
Mary was born on November 30, 1917 in Ishpeming to the late Joseph and Maria (LaCaria) Ombrello and was a lifelong Ishpeming resident. Mary attended St. John's Catholic grade school, and was a 1936 graduate of the Ishpeming High School. Mary married Dominic A. Tasson at St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming on February 26, 1938. They were married for 62 years. Mary worked for the H.W. Gossard Company for many years. She began working there after high school and retired as a boss in 1961. Mary and her husband Dominic along with her brother Dominic Ombrello and his wife Beatrice purchased the Paradise bar in downtown Ishpeming in 1961. She retired from the business in 1976.
Mary was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming, a former member of the Wawonowin Golf Club and a member of the St. Ann Society.
Mary was a kind and thoughtful person who never forgot to visit a sick or grieving friend, and always arrived with a bag of goodies. She loved to walk, and nothing kept her from her daily walk. She took great pride in her appearance, and loved clothes and jewelry. She never left her home without being dressed to perfection in the latest styles from Goldies and the Style Shop. She will be missed by the family she leaves behind, but the family that went on before her will be waiting with open arms to welcome their dear Mary home.
When Mary was born, her father was so happy to have a daughter after three boys, that he hired a band to play in downtown Ishpeming to welcome Mary to the world. When Mary arrived in heaven, you can be sure that her father arranged for a chorus of angels to greet his daughter and welcome her to eternal life.
Mary is survived by two sisters: Philomena Decaire and Rose Fleck of Ishpeming, one brother: Anthony (Bernice) Ombrello of Marquette, and sister-in-law Beatrice Ombrello of Ishpeming. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dominic in 2000, her parents, and five brothers: Frank, Joseph, Victor, Dominic, and Salvatore Ombrello.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11:00AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Fr Greg Heikkala officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of service. A luncheon will be held following the service. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery in the summer of 2009.
