Obituary

ISHPEMING - Mary Valentino Arcari, age 95, of 315 E. Vine St., Ishpeming, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had resided since March 14, 2008.

Mary was born May 28, 1912 in Ironwood, one of 8 children of Michael and Mary (Stefanelli) Valentino. She attended St. Ambrose School and Luther L. Wright High School. Mary worked at Davis and Fehr Department Store in Ironwood until her marriage to Ercole Arcari on October 17, 1931 when she moved to Ishpeming and started a family. She was employed by the H. W. Gossard Company for 26 years until her retirement in 1974, and was also the bookkeeper for her husband's business.
Mary was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming and, for many years, catered events at St. John's K. D. HaIl. She also was a lifelong member of the Marquette County Chapter of the Paisano Club of Upper Michigan. Mary was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed reading, needlework, sewing and going to the casino. Those who knew Mary enjoyed her wonderful cooking, baking and bread making.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Arcari Bach of Woodstock, IL; her son-in-law, Charles W. Cornish of Ishpeming; her grandchildren Charles S. "Scott" Cornish of Sault Ste. Marie, Kim Cornish of Negaunee, Jill Cornish (Dennis) Dompierre of Negaunee, and Curt Cornish of Ishpeming; 1 sister, Helen Suzik of Ironwood; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ercole in 1985, daughter Mary Cornish in 2001, brothers: Frank Valentino, James Valentino and Albert Valentino, sisters: Carmela Morcom, Florence Arcari, Margaret AltobelIo and her special pet dog "Mopsy".

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 12:00noon at St. John the Evangelist Church with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00AM until the time of services at the church. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
