Ely Twp- Mary E. Ahtonen, age 74 of 4461 Hwy 41 West Lot 1 Ishpeming (Ely Twp) passed away Saturday October 3, 2015 at UP Health System Marquette.

Mary was born August 20, 1941 in Ishpeming to the late Mike & Mary (Treloar) Anderson. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1959. Mary worked as a secretary for Flannigan Bros. Moving Company.

Mary enjoyed playing BINGO, watching old Western movies and was a big John Wayne fan. Mary was an avid Packer fan; she enjoyed listening to the music of Madison Scouts and the Ishpeming Blue Notes. She also enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband Jerry Ahtonen, whom she married on December 29, 1973, 4 children: Michael Peura of Ishpeming, Jean (Mark) Feldbauer of Champion, Cathy (fiancé David) Peterson of Champion and Bryan Ahtonen of Champion, 5 grandchildren: Kristen Peura, Mary Jean (Huck) Holappa, Teri (Andy) Arczynski, Alex (Kaitlyn) Feldbauer and Ethan Ahtonen, 4 great grandchildren: Elizabeth Snell, Emma Aho, Jared Arczynski, and Jada Arczynski, a special niece Jodie (Larry) Stennett along with other nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Mike & Mary Anderson, a sister Margaret Dobson and a daughter in law Carol Peura.

Mary's family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm on Wednesday October 7, 2015 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm with Rev. Terri Branstrom officiating.

A luncheon will be held at the American Legion Lillian Larson Post 114 in Greenwood location following the service.
