Obituary

Ishpeming- Marvin H. Nadeau, age 85 of 433 W. Empire St. Ishpeming, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he been a resident since May 31, 2007.

Marvin was born March 21, 1923, in Negaunee to John & Mildred (Endahl) Nadeau. Marvin grew up in the Forest Lake area near Munising, prior to moving to Ishpeming where he lived since the age of 19. Marvin graduated from Mather High School in Munising and attended Syracuse University for 1 year. Marvin served his county during World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was a 2nd Lieutenant flying many different aircraft, eventually becoming a pilot on a B-24.

Marvin worked as a Master Mechanic for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company. He started working at the Mather A and B Mines and retired from the Tilden Mine on January 1, 1986 as a foreman after 43 years of working.

Marvin was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Ishpeming where he was active in many capacities, including serving on the church council and serving on the property board where he was past chairman. Marvin was also a happy member of Bethany's "Grumpy Old Men." Marvin enjoyed walking, woodworking, making clocks, photography and e-mailing. He spent time camping and traveling to 44 states and visiting many different Presidential sites. Marvin was a Detroit Tigers baseball fan and enjoyed going to many different ballparks. He was also a Packer fan. Most important to Marvin, however, was his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and always had time to help others. Marvin was a humble servant who was always there for anyone who needed help.

Marvin is survived by his wife Evelyn (Ulrickson) Nadeau, whom he married December 30, 1942, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Detroit; 6 children: Susanne (Paul) Puder of Hoffman Estates, IL, Paul (Emily) Nadeau of Peachtree City, GA, Carol (Ken) Carlson of Menominee, MI, Linda Dahl of Ishpeming, Robert Nadeau of Ishpeming and Debra (Peter) Cain of Ishpeming; 11 grandchildren: Kirsten Morgan, Michelle (Jim) Reilly, Heather Puder, Tracy Nadeau, Timothy Nadeau, Peter (Emily Ann) Nadeau, Ryan (Joy) Carlson, Sara Carlson, Addy Cain, Winter Cain, Lindsey Cain; 7 great grandchildren: Natalie & Jason Morgan, Jimmy Reilly, Isaac & Adam Carlson, Faith Cain and Alaina Nadeau; 2 sisters-in laws Ellen Nadeau and Martha Ulrickson, along with a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John Joseph Pershing Nadeau, 2 nephews Peter Ulrickson and Jerry Nadeau and his son-in-law Karl Dahl.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 12:00 noon at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Warren Geier and Vicar Joy Proper officiating. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bethany Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon.
