Ishpeming - Marvin Malcolm Dobson, 95, longtime Ishpeming area resident passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the Michigan Veterans Home D.J. Jacobetti in Marquette.
Marvin was born in Ishpeming, on May 8, 1927, a son of the late Lydia (Corkish) and John Thomas Dobson. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during WW II in the Asiatic / Pacific Theater of operations.
He worked for Clairmount as a truck driver, Hercules Powder Co in National Mine and Salt Lake City, Utah, returned to this area and worked at the Ore Improvement Pellet plant for CCI; then as a Police Officer for the Ishpeming Police Dept., and his favorite job was as a Custodian / Bus Driver at National Mine School and then later NICE Community Schools. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Marvin spent his time cutting firewood, fishing & tying flies, hunting, and horseshoes. He enjoyed his trip to Washington DC on the Honor Flight.
Marvin is survived by a daughter, Mary (Amir) Afshar of Ishpeming; a son Daniel (Diane) Dobson of Champion; 3 grandchildren – Daniel Dobson, Abraham Afshar, Amir K. Afshar, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Ruth in 2017, along with 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
A Private Graveside Service will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery with Rev. Steven Weston officiating.
