Obituary

Negaunee Twp. – Martin R. Olgren Sr., age 82 longtime Negaunee Twp. resident passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at the home of his daughter in Negaunee Twp.  He was in the loving care of his family and the Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice at the time of his passing.

Martin was born April 15, 1936 in Ishpeming, MI the son of the late Nels and Alina (Hintsala) Olgren.  He attended the Ishpeming High School through the 10 th grade, and was a graduate of the Republic High School, Class of 1954.  Martin enlisted in the United States Army following graduation, serving his country from 1954 until 1958.  Upon his return from the service, he met and married Jeanette Lehto on June 21, 1958.  He was employed by North Central Airlines as a Ramp Service Agent at the Marquette Co. Airport and throughout the years spent time working for Republic Airlines and Northwest Airlines at various locations which included Minneapolis, Appleton and Green Bay, retiring in 1993.

Martin was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Twp. In his younger years, Martin enjoyed hunting and fishing along with woodworking.  He loved to tinker with electronics, especially TV's and computers and he will be remembered as a "gadget man". Trips to the Beef-A-Roo in Negaunee for coffee and the camaraderie of friends was a daily highlight for Martin. He truly loved to attend his grandchildren's events and activities.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette (Lehto) Olgren in 2001. Survivors include his special friend Virginia Paulson of Negaunee, 4 children – Linda J. (Michael) Carlson of Negaunee Twp., Martin R. (Pam) Olgren Jr. of Kearsarge, MI and Lake Wales, FL, Leland N. (Kriss) Olgren of Frankenmuth and Leonard N. (Lenora) Olgren of Negaunee Twp., sister Dorothy Worgull of Camp Verde, AZ, 10 grandchildren – Angela (Brett), Adam (Angela),Martin III (Daniella), Matthew, Stephen (Cynthia), Hannah, Michael (Delynn), Melissa, Alexa and Jenna, 5 great grandchildren – Noah, Sierra, Deshawn, Malakai and Dade, brother in law- Richard (Joyce) Lehto of Ishpeming, along with several nieces and nephews.  Martin was also preceded in death by sisters - Judy Heslip and Aili Kangas and brothers – August, Leonard and Ted Olgren.

The Olgren family will greet relatives and friends from 3 until 5pm on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 1700 US 41 West, Ishpeming.  Funeral services will follow at 5:00pm on Tuesday with Roger Kangas to officiate.  Entombment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.

Martin's family wishes to extend a special thank you to his caregivers Lindsey DeBernardi and Eileen Brondi along with the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care of Marquette for their kind and compassionate care over the years.
