Obituary

Republic – Martin L. "Marty" O'Dell, age 77 of 6803 Silver Bay Rd., Republic died Friday Oct. 26, 2007 at Marquette General Hospital.

Marty was born in Albion, Michigan March 17, 1930 to the late Delmar and Clara (Chandler) O'Dell. He graduated from Albion High School in 1948 and Albion College in 1952. He retired in 1985 from teaching and coaching after 2 years at Springport High School and 31 years at Anderson Middle School in Berkley Michigan.
He married Janet (Nordstrom) on Dec. 23, 1950. He and his wife retired to their summer cabin on the Michigamme River in 1986.

Marty loved to dance, especially square and round dancing, hunt, sing, travel, and garden. His dog went everywhere with him. He was a Life time member of the Masons, belonged to the NRA, Sagola Gun Club, Pharr, TX Gun Club, R-NEA, Wawonowin Golf Course, Magic Valley Men of Accord Barber Shop group in Texas, the choir of the First United Methodist Church in McAllen TX, and the Republic United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Janet, his 2 sons, Alan (Deann) O'Dell of Escanaba, MI, and Brian (Doris) O'Dell of Rosemount, MN, 4 granddaughters, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren and his sister, Virginia Reed of Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday October 30, 2007 at the Republic United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Fegan to officiate. Interment will take place at the Republic Cemetery.


The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00am until the time of services on Tuesday at the church in Republic.
