Champion – Martin J. Beck Sr. age 73 of 149 Co. Rd. AK, Champion died peacefully on Tuesday April 6, 2010 at the Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient since March 31st.
Martin was born July 6, 1936, and was the son of the late John and Jennie Beck of Champion. Martin was a graduate of the Champion High School, Class of 1954. He served in the United States Army in the Panama Canal Zone. Martin worked at the Champion Mine in Champion and then for the Railroad for many years as a track maintenance man. Martin was active around the community of Champion, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine Beck, his children – Martin (Pauline) Beck Jr., Mike Beck, Mark Beck, Marlene Beck, as well as two step-daughters Lori Lee and Stacey Hanna. Also, grandchildren as well as great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Matthew Beck, an infant daughter Mary Louise Beck and a sister Marlene Beck.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 until 3:00pm on Friday April 9, 2010 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm on Friday with the Rev. D. Michael Carriere to officiate, and military honors by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 380. Interment will take place at the Champion Cemetery.
