MARENISCO TOWNSHIP, MI - Mark Anthony Massie, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, of Marenisco Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 13, 2026, at age 66.
Mark was born August 21, 1959, in Wakefield, MI, the son of the late Dr. John and Mary Louise (Massa) Massie. Mark graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1978. After graduation, he moved to North Texas where he lived for half of his life. There he began his career, working as a project engineer for Time-Warner Telecom for over 30 years, while raising his family.
In 2020, Mark received a cancer diagnosis. After a tough battle, he came out on top and went into remission. His cancer diagnosis and recovery truly changed his life. In 2022, he retired and moved from Texas back to Michigan where he began work restoring the family’s cabin, which was truly a labor of love. He created a beautiful home for his family, and it was “the happy ending” his children always wanted for him.
Mark loved fishing, golfing, cooking, and watching sports, specifically baseball, hockey, and football. He could pick a conversation out of thin air (unless the Packers were playing) and he just loved to sit and chat.
Since his return to Michigan, he quickly learned how to tap maples and enjoyed making maple syrup. He especially loved spending time with family and had a knack for making family out of his dear friends. His sense of humor, positivity, and boisterous laugh blessed many cookouts, living rooms, birthdays, and family get togethers.
Mark was a devoted and loving father who was a source of comfort and was committed to helping his children succeed and be happy. Sophia, Miranda, and Aaron were blessed to have him as their guidepost and support throughout their lives; his presence will be deeply missed but the life lessons and love he shared will carry beyond his time here.
Mark was a member of the Catholic Church attending various parishes from Texas to Michigan throughout his lifetime.
Remaining to cherish Mark’s memory are his children, Sophia Massie-Perez (Cesar Perez), Miranda Massie (Carlos Hatcher), and Aaron Massie (Jacquelyn Appel); grandchild, Harper Massie; brothers, Michael (Debbie) Massie, Jim (Cheryl) Massie, John (Lois) Massie, Jeffery Massie, and Jaye Massie; sisters, Peggy (Jerry) Racine, Jo Anne (Randy) Decaire; 21 nieces and nephews, many precious cousins and countless beloved friends and extended family.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Mary Louise Massie; nieces, Michelle Decaire and Holly Racine; nephew, Casey Massie; former sisters-in-law, Kari Massie and Carol (Elaine) Baker; former brother-in-law, Carl Baker and Wayne Cooper.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ishpeming, from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. EST. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Bessemer, MI, at a later date.
Friends and relatives are invited to share notes of remembrance on the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home website at www.bjorkandzhulkie.com. Memorial donations in Mark’s memory may be directed to your favorite charity(ies).
