Champion – Marjorie A. Hamel, age 67 of 2238 Co. Rd. AAJ in Champion, passed away at 3:05pm on Friday March 16, 2007 at the Marquette General Hospital.
Marjorie was born December 16, 1939 in Menominee, MI the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Rakers) Wolard. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Marinette, WI with the Class of 1958. She had served in the United States armed services. Marjorie had worked at Lauerman's in Marinette, the Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain and for 17 years as a mail carrier in Champion, MI retiring December 16, 1999.
Marjorie married the late Joseph Donald Hamel on June 24, 1989 at Sacred Heart in Champion. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion, where she had been active in the church choir. She enjoyed socializing, playing cards, and being around friends. She had many collections, including tea pots, bears and baskets. She was a member of the V.F.W. Lil-Larson Post, the Senior Citizens and the Share Program.
Survivors include two brothers – William (Barb) Wolard and George (Mary) Wolard both of Marinette, WI; 6 sisters – Betty Wickman of Porterfield, WI, Florence Burdue of Cudahy, WI, Janet Wolard of Champion, Lorraine (Douglas) Philipps of Wausaukee, WI, Joanne (Lance) Timper of Marinette, and Caroline (Harry) Baranczyk of Gillet, WI; a sister-in-law Pat Hamel of Ishpeming; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday March 20, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion with the Rev. Msgr. Peter Oberto to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Champion Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 10:00am until the time of services on Tuesday.
