Ishpeming - Marilyn Ann Blewett, age 62, of 315 Barnum St. passed away at 3:20PM, Sunday, May 31st, 2009 at Mather Nursing Center following a courageous battle with cancer since 2000.
Marilyn was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on August 14, 1946, the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna (Dobson) Blewett. She was a 1964 graduate of Ishpeming High School and a 1968 graduate of Northern Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Education. While attending Northern, Marilyn had worked as a Nurses Aid at the Acocks Medical Care Facility. Upon graduation, Marilyn was first employed in Green Bay, WI where she taught for two years. She moved back to this area and worked as a second grade school teacher at many schools in the NICE community school district, retiring from the Aspen Ridge Elementary School in 2000 after 30 years of teaching.
Marilyn was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, belonging to the United Methodist Women - Sarah Circle, Wesley Bell Ringers and was an active participant in the churches Pasty making. She was also a member of the Order of the Easter Star, the Red Hats, the Marquette Area Retired School Personnel, and the Friends of the Library. Marilyn traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. She always enjoyed reading, and in recent years took up crocheting. Friends were always close at heart with Marilyn, as was evident when they would get together for Dinners.
Marilyn is survived by two brothers: Jim (Pat) Blewett of Ishpeming, William (Barb) Blewett of Ishpeming, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Alan in 1994.
A Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming at 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 2nd, with Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of services at the church. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
