Obituary
Republic – Marie E. Syrjala, age 57 of 317 Pine St., Republic, passed away at 12:15am on Thursday February 12, 2009 at her home in Republic following a 3 month battle with cancer.
Marie was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on September 14, 1951, the daughter of Toivo and Margaret (Sirtola) Isaacson. She grew up in Republic, graduating from Republic High School, and attended college in Green Bay for two years. She lived in Green Bay for ten years following her marriage to Donald Syrjala before moving to Florida for ten years.
She moved back to Republic in 1990 and worked as a Medical Staff Coordinator at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming for the past fifteen years. Marie loved four wheeling and the outdoors, along with spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Donald Syrjala of Republic, her mother Margaret Isaacson of Ishpeming, 2 daughters: Stacie (Scott Saari) Syrjala of Humboldt, Jill (fiancé Ryan Mattila) Syrjala of Humboldt, 3 grandchildren: Ashley, Halen, and Bryanna, an aunt Elaine Johnson of Carpenterville, IL, niece Amanda and nephew Christopher. Marie is also survived by a sister, Janice (Steve) Hull of Republic and a brother, John (Kim) Isaacson of Ft. Gratiot, MI. Marie was preceded in death by her father Toivo Isaacson.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
