Ishpeming - Marian L. Franti, age 84 of 325 Stoneville Rd. Ishpeming, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while in the loving care of her family.
Marian was born July 27, 1928 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late Henry and Elsie (Hyttsten) Frederickson. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1946 and a lifelong Ishpeming area resident. Marian married Melvin Korpi and together they had three sons. Melvin passed away in 1958 and Marian then raised her son's as a single mother. She worked as a data processor for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. at the Mather A Mine for several years. Marian remarried Victor Franti who also preceded her in death in 1996.
Marian was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church where she had been active with the WELCA, and had served on the Social Ministry Board. She will be remembered as a great baker, and in her younger years enjoyed knitting.
Survivors include 3 sons – Alan (Kathy) Korpi of Hudson, WI, Paul (Peggy) Korpi and Roland (Rosemary) Korpi both of Ishpeming, sister-in-laws – Kaye Frederickson, Marlene Anderson, Bernice Korpi, Donna (Earl) Knutson, brother-in-laws - Ronald, Roy and Calvin Korpi all of Ishpeming, 7 grandchildren – Ryan (Kayla) Korpi, Shay (Jill) Korpi, Cory (Kelly) Korpi, Eric "Bear" (Jackie Swanson) Korpi, Christi (Chris) McElroy, Katie (Marty) Trudgeon and Mark (Rebecca) Korpi, 11 great grandchildren whom she loved and cherished – Allison, Austin, Lola, Laynie, Camryn, Alexandra, Natalie, Callie, Ava, Molly and Hattie, along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st and 2nd husbands along with 2 brothers Raymond and Donald Frederickson.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 – 3:00pm on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm on Sunday at the Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Warren Geier to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Marian's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
