Obituary

Gwinn – Margaret E. Palomaki, age 92, formerly of 207 S. Johnson Dr., Gwinn passed away on Wednesday August 11, 2010 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where she had resided for the past 7 months.


Margaret was born November 17, 1917 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late William and T. Ethel (Kiuru) Lawer. Margaret attended the Ishpeming Schools through the 11th grade, and then returned to night school, graduating in 1971 with her husband Irving Palomaki, whom she married on April 7, 1947. She was a lifelong area resident, residing in Gwinn since 1977. Margaret worked as a seamstress at the H. W. Gossard Co. in Ishpeming, and then as a nurses aid at the Bell Hospital for many years.

Margaret was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Ishpeming for over 80 years, where she enjoyed bible studies and had been a Sunday school teacher. She was a former Girl Scout leader for several years. Margaret enjoyed family gatherings, and countless hours doing crossword puzzles.


Survivors include a daughter from her first marriage to Bernard Pearce, Margaret "Peggy" (Paul) Gravedoni of Negaunee, 6 grandchildren – Donna (Carl) Bjork, Paula Gravedoni, Michael (Angela) Gravedoni, Robert (Beyonca) Gravedoni, Todd Ninnis & Edward Palomaki, 12 great grandchildren – Chynna & Ciarra Bjork, Jeremy (Stephanie) Gravedoni, Meagan (Charles) Richmond, Dylan, Alexandra, and Nathaniel Gravedoni, Marissa Whealton, Lynnzie, Emily, Seth & Volfsweet Palomaki, a great-great granddaughter Cohen Gravedoni, 2 sisters-in-law Theresa and Lucille Palomaki both of Ishpeming, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irving (1998) and a son Edward Palomaki (1968).


The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 – 11am on Saturday August 14, 2010 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Ishpeming where funeral services will be held at 11:00am with Rev. Phyllis DeWitt to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Michael and Bob Gravedoni, Tod Ninnis, Carl Bjork, Terry Lawer and Ronald Lehtinen.
