Edina, MN - Margaret Elizabeth Lakanen, age 82, of 300 Silver St., Ishpeming passed away, Monday, November 12, 2007 at the Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN while surrounded by her loving family. Margaret had been residing in Minnesota with her daughter for the past few months.

Margaret was born May 27, 1925 in Greensburg, KS to the late Ellis and Reva (Barbour) Fisher. Margaret was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Congregation of Negaunee. She enjoyed playing scrabble, spending time with family, along with writing letters to family and friends.

Survivors include five daughters: Margaret (Ralph) Kumpula of Eden Prairie, MN, Karen (Paul) Koski of Republic, MI, Ida (Gary) Adamson of Kensington, MN, June (Steve) Ayotte of Ishpeming, MI, Elizabeth (Gary) Rogers of DeLano, MN, six sons: Paul Lakanen of New Hope, MN, Mark (Barbara) Lakanen of Coon Rapids, MN, Kurt (Carolyn) Lakanen of Andover, MN, Joseph (Nancy) Lakanen of Coon Rapids, MN, Ed (Sara) Lakanen of Ishpeming, MI, David (Susan) Lakanen of Negaunee, MI, a daughter-in-law June Nykanen of New Ipswich, NH, 33 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clifford Lakanen on Oct 25, 2006, an infant son Melvin, son Daniel, 5 brothers, Clyde, Louis, Virgil, Ellis Jr., and Thornton Fisher, 2 grandchildren, and a great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Co. Rd. 492, Negaunee, with Wayne Bergstedt officiating. Interment will take place at the Humboldt Twp. Cemetery.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 11:00am until the time of services on Saturday at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church.


Pallbearers will be Margaret's sons - Paul, Mark, Kurt, Joseph, Edward and David Lakanen
