Republic- Marcus A. Antilla, age 19 of 196 Evergreen St. Republic passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 while on a hiking trip in the Rocking Chair Lakes area.

Marcus was born July 3, 1997 in Ishpeming to Mark A. & Joanne E. (Heliste) Antilla. He attended Republic-Michigamme School, where he excelled as a student-athlete. Marcus was the valedictorian of his class of 2015. He participated in basketball and track for Republic-Michigamme and played football for the Ishpeming Hematite's. He was on the 2012 and 2013 state championship football teams at Ishpeming. Marcus played baseball in the Republic and Ishpeming Little Leagues and on the Legion team.

Marcus recently completed his sophomore year at Michigan Technological University where he was studying to be an electrical engineer. While at Tech, Marcus played intramural basketball and flag football. During the past summers, Marcus worked at the Marquette County Landfill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time camping, hanging out with family and friends. Marcus was looking forward to becoming an uncle as his two sisters are expecting children in June.

Marcus is survived by his parents Joanne & Mark Antilla of Republic, sisters: Lindsey (Andrew) Mattson of Australia and Taylor (Jacob) Spear of Republic, grandmothers: Elaine Heliste and Joan Antilla of Republic, aunts and uncles: David Antilla, Steven (Judy) Antilla of Republic, Mary Jo Carello of Ishpeming, Wayne (Jane) Heliste of Republic, Wanda Mattila of Republic, Keith (Beth) Heliste of Republic, Kathy (John) Stadler of Olympia, WA, Wayne Shepherd of Republic, Diane Tapio of Republic and Cindy Heliste of Republic, a special cousin Marissa Carello along with many other cousins and friends. Marcus was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Norman Heliste and Oscar Antilla and aunt Peggy Shepherd and a cousin Kerrie Shepherd.

Funeral services for Marcus will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday May 5, 2017 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Poplar St. Republic, MI with Rev Kevin Kaiser officiating. Interment will take place at the Republic Twp Cemetery.

Marcus's family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic from 2:30 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm.

Pallbearers will be Halen Carello, Thomas Finegan, Jake Spear, Andrew Mattson, Jason Tapio, Bill Radcliffe and Mike Mattila.

Honorary pallbearers will be Republic-Michigamme Hawks basketball team and Ishpeming Hematites football team.
