Marquette – Luella L. Marin, age 86, longtime Ishpeming resident and Marquette resident since 2004, entered eternal life surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Luella had been a resident at the Norlite Nursing Center for nearly 3 years.
Luella was born to John and Alice (Blanck) Latola on April 27, 1928 in Gwinn, MI. She graduated from the Gwinn High School in 1945 and from Northern Michigan College of Education as a music and English teacher. Luella taught school in the Rock River Township School System.
She married Martin Marin on June 24, 1950 and resided in Gwinn. In 1955 they moved to Ishpeming where the family became members of the Bethel Lutheran Church. In both Gwinn and Ishpeming, Luella served as church organist, choir director and Sunday School Teacher. Luella also taught private piano lessons for 50 years. She had been a member of the Saturday Music Club of Marquette, Marquette Area Piano Teachers Association, and the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include 4 children- Paul (Betsy Little) Marin, C. Peter Marin of Suttons Bay, Ann (Esa Rantanen) Marin of Champaign, IL, John (Michele-Hoaiduc Nguyen) Marin of San Francisco, CA; 8 grandchildren: Alec, Matthew, Andrew, Marybeth, Kristopher, and Odin Thien-An Marin, Alisa and Petra Rantanen; 2 sisters- Norma (William) Maki and Karen (Vernon) Sarasin both of Arlington Heights, IL; sister-in-law Marianne Bubolz of Okemos; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin J. Marin and daughter-in-law Diane Marin.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki and Rev. David Van Kley officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment will take place in the spring at the Gwinn Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Luella's grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming, Grace Lutheran Church, Gwinn or the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library.
