National Mine- Louise E. Solka, age 75 formerly of 380 Co Rd PDJ National Mine, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Bell Hospital in the U.P Home Health and Hospice unit, where she had been a patient since this past Tuesday.
Louise was born May 12, 1932 in Grantsburg, WI to the late Luther and Sarah (Stevens) Harvey. She grew up in Wisconsin and later moved to Duluth until 1964. Louise resided in Ishpeming from 1964 – 1974 working for many years at the Paradise Bar in Ishpeming. She then moved to Milltown WI with her husband James and resided there until 1999 when they moved to National Mine.
She enjoyed crocheting, fishing and deer hunting, and her flower and vegetable gardens. She also had a passion for collecting music boxes, statues, and wind chimes.
Louise is survived by her husband of 34 years James Solka of National Mine; daughters: Lorraine Cowling of Ishpeming, Lynette (James) Davis of Ishpeming, Patricia LaFave of Wylie TX, Pamela (Scott) Peters of Munising, step-children: Allen (Kathy) Solka of Ishpeming, and Sherry Solka of Fox Valley, WI, sister: Evelyn Hill of Milltown, WI, many grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, along with numerous nieces and nephews in WI and MN. Louise was preceded in death by her son Terrance James Lauer at the age of 16 months and her beloved dog Toto.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00p.m. Sunday June 24, 2007 at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Lew Pizzala of the New Life Church officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends may call the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00p.m. until the time of service at 5:00p.m.
