Obituary

Michigamme - Louis Gaspero Roncaglione, age 93, of 468 Cardinal Red Road, Lake Michigamme, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Teal Lake Senior Living Community in Negaunee while under the loving care of his family and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Louis was born in New Swanzy Location, MI on February 4, 1928, a son of the late Felicina (Balagna) and Domenic Roncaglione who were immigrants from Italy. He was a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Class of 1945 and the General Motors Institute, Class of 1947. Louis served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Biloxi, MS as the Electronics, Radar, and Communication instructor at Keesler Air Force Base.  When stationed in Putnam, CT he worked on the SAGE experimental radar project for the east coast of the United States.

Upon his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant, Louis returned to the Upper Peninsula.  He worked as an electrical foreman for CCI for 30 years, at the Mather B, then the Republic for most of his years and retired from the Tilden Mine. During his years at CCI he also had a business repairing radio transmitters and televisions.  In his retirement he acquired his CDL and drove semi-trucks for Evergreen Express and Blondeau Trucking.

He enjoyed snowmobiling and was a longtime member of the Moose Country Snowmobile Club, along with spending time on Lake Michigamme. He operated a sawmill and cut lumber for many years, and was instrumental in building his home, camp, and his children's homes.

Survivors include his loving wife Virginia A. (Flack) Roncaglione of Lake Michigamme, with whom he would have celebrated their 70th anniversary on September 8, being married at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in 1951; his  five children – Louis S. Roncaglione of Ishpeming, Linda (Thomas) Brecheisen of Negaunee, Larry (Paula) Roncaglione of Michigamme, Loretta Roncaglione of Ishpeming, Lisa (David) Blondeau of Harvey; sister-in-law Marie (Ralph) Keto of Ishpeming; 3 grandchildren - Steven Roncaglione (Jammey Hargrave), Haylee (Joshua) Argall, Lorissa Juntti (Gage Laitinen), 6 step-grandchildren - Craig Brecheisen, Michael Starkey, Tammy (Ron) Troutt, Heidi (Thomas) Babcock, Traci Blondeau, Amber Genovese and their children; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was Preceded in death by an infant daughter Lori Virginia Roncaglione, siblings, Phyllis (George) Lafkas, Domenic Roncaglione, Lena (Albert) Trudgeon, and Irma Valenti.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the Ishpeming Cemetery with Fr. Larry Van Damme to officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force. A luncheon will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Church Hall.
