Charleston, WV – Lorraine (Westman) Hakala, age 84, longtime Gwinn resident, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia. She had resided in West Virginia for the past five years.

Lorraine was born the daughter of the late Jerry and Emma (Furaitar) Westman on April 30, 1923 in Sagola, MI. Lorraine moved to Little Lake at a young age and resided in the Gwinn area for most of her adult life. She was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends and loved when people came to visit her.

Surviving Lorraine are a daughter Sandy (David) Stratton of Hurricane, WV, 4 sisters: Marie Jensen of Gwinn, Doris Manchester of Racine, WI, Betty Cornelia of Ostego, MI, and Sharon Anderson of Ishpeming, a brother: John Westman of Palmer, 3 Grandchildren: Karrie (Peter) Hogue of Louisville KY, Rebekah (Jeremy) Crouch of Hurricane, WV, Benjamin Stratton of Hurricane WV, 3 Great Grandchildren: Haleigh Crouch, Jonathan Crouch, and Clara Hogue along with many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph in 2000, her parents, 6 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Cremation took place in West Virginia and a Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 3:00PM at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Ron Westman to officiate. Lorraine's family will greet friends and relatives from 2:00PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at the Gwinn Cemetery.
