IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorraine R.
Contreras
November 14, 1931 – December 5, 2020
Ishpeming - R. Lorraine Contreras, 89, of Ely Township passed to the Great Beyond on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 at home while in the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice.
She was born 11-14-1931 and raised in Ishpeming, a daughter of Margaret (Farm) and Elmer Kangas. Lorraine graduated Ishpeming High School in 1949, was married to Raymond Hahka and divorced a few years later. She was married again in 1963 to Jesse Contreras and moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she continued to raise her family as well as work outside the home. She worked many years for the J.C. Penney Company in collections. When the company closed, she moved to Delaware and worked for MBank and American Express in collections, and finally retired from a Delaware credit union as the collection's supervisor. Lorraine traveled throughout Europe and Mexico with her husband and children in her younger years.
Lorraine retired but did not stop working; she was employed at Ludington State Park, the Carnegie Library of Ishpeming, and the Ishpeming Senior Center. She then traveled some more with her family to Mexico, Costa Rica, Paris, and Canada as well as throughout the U.S. She was an avid reader and loved to watch her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their participation of sports. Lorraine also loved to watch television, especially basketball, ice skating, and news channels. She enjoyed fishing, walks in the woods, taking rides throughout the U.P. and visiting casinos and listening to rock'n'roll music.
Lorraine was truly well-loved by her family and friends who will miss her sweet face.
She is survived by her six children: Kristina Hahka Asta, William (Jan Calabro) Hahka, Kathy Hahka, Jonathan (Regina) Hahka, Jaimes (Lisa Falenski) Contreras, Kevin Contreras and "additional daughter" Nancy Ohman. Grandchildren: Gabriel (Julie) Hahka, Joshua Harju, April (Justin) Bassano, Amber (Jake Magnus) Hahka. Great-grandchildren: Tristan Vitale, Gabriella Hahka, Samantha Hahka, Scottlyn Harju, Hunter Bassano, Everly Bassano, and Noah Wilhelm. She was predeceased by husband Jesse Contreras and beloved grandchild Juliana Vitale.
There will be no formal services because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Family and friends will gather in the summer to celebrate this beautiful woman's life.
