Ishpeming Twp. – Lori J. Swanson, age 63, of 1645 S. Westwood Circle, Ishpeming passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 of an apparent heart attack at her home.

Lori was born in Stambaugh, MI on July 17, 1956 to the late Ruth M. (White) and Robert W. Soderberg. She grew up in Ishpeming Township and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, class of 1974.  Lori had worked at Bietila's Sporting Goods in Ishpeming, Morrison's Drug Store and then for 24 years as a receptionist at UP Eye Specialists prior to her retirement.

Lori's greatest joy was her role as Nana to her grandchildren and spending as much time with them as she could.  While raising her daughters, her social life revolved around attending their various activities and events.  Lori loved the Christmas season, which allowed her to show off her decorating, cooking and baking skills. She and Steve spent much time outdoors together, enjoying activities such as biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, golfing, gardening and yard work.  Lori loved visiting her sister Sue and brother-in-law, Lee, in Utah and spent much time hiking in the mountains capturing pictures of her beloved moose.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Steve Swanson of Ishpeming; two daughters - Jessica Grenwis of Minneapolis, MN and Jennifer (Ryan) Essex of Wauwatosa, WI; sister Sue (Lee) DuQuette of Midvale, UT: a brother John Soderberg of Ishpeming; 4 grandchildren - Jaxton, Audrey, Mila, and Izzy, along with her former son-in-law David Grenwis of Minneapolis, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Julie Soderberg, in 2010.

Lori's family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00PM – 2:00PM on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00PM on Sunday with the Rev. Stacy Pethke to officiate.

Memorial donations are unnecessary, but any received will be donated to families in need during the holiday season.
